What is hex nipple adapter fitting?
Adapter fitting can act as alternative connection, hex nipple is applied to connect pipes of different sizes or odd sizes on both pipe end in order to extend a piping system by connecting 2 different nominal bore schedule pipes. Reducing hex nipple adapter can be implied in transition of flow which is abrupt, for instance, to reduce the flow rate. Threaded end connections ease the installation process. It avoids leakage between the connections in general industries applications. Pipe adapters are made of high quality and durable materials.
Adapters are available in various types, sizes, materials, configurations and connection. Pipe adapter might have either female or male and BSPP or NPT threads on one and another threads on the other end. Caps are used to protect the threads of fitting and boost fitting durability. It is resistance to high pressure as the maximum pressure in normal operation system is 420 bars (6000 PSI). However, external variables like flow velocity, O-ring material, and temperature de-rating factor must be taken into account. Fitting pressure will decrease to 331 bars when operating at a temperature of 400⁰C.
Adapters fitting are manufactured by forging stainless steel SS316 and carbon steel bar stock. The operating temperature range for the adapter fitting body material is specified, fittings with material of stainless steel SS316 is suitable to work at maximum temperature of 537◦c while material of carbon steel is 190°c.
